American Red Cross Youth Swim Lessons are offered throughout the year for children ages 3-12 years. We ask that parents watch the lessons from outside the pool area. However, parents must remain available to take the child to the restroom or in case of an accident or injury. This program is available for Members and Non-Members alike (additional fees apply for non-members). Please register in person at the Welcome Desk within 2 weeks of the program start date. WaterART - Fitness Fundamentals is offered twice a year for members and non-members to become certified to teach water aerobics and deep water exercise. Must be 18 years old to participate. The next course will be offered in September. For Registration and more information, please click here.
Youth and Adult Private Swim Lessons are available in half hour increments. Lessons are by appointment and for Members Only. Contact Terri Lees at 816-300-0541. Fee is $20 per lesson and should be paid at the Welcome Desk. Please present your receipt to the instructor at the time of the lesson.
Aquatic Personal Training is available to Members Only who want that additional attention to improve muscular strength, endurance and flexibility as well as cardio-respiratory fitness. Schedule your individual appointment by calling Terri Lees at 816-300-0541. Hourly sessions are $35 and half-hour sessions are available for $18. Please purchase the service at the Welcome Desk and present your receipt to the Aqua Personal Trainer at the pool.
Traditional Water Fitness Classes are available to ages 13 and older. Classes run in seven (7) week sessions and fill daily on first come basis. Complimentary with membership.
Senior Masters is available to members only. Senior Masters are individuals 50+ years who are working to improve swimming efficiency and learn the competitive strokes with the option of learning to compete in senior and/or masters swim meets.
Adapted Aquatics are available to members for a fee. Terri Lees is a trained adapted aquatics specialist and can provide opportunities in the water for individuals with disabilities. Call for a personal consultation at 816-300-0541.
American Red Cross Lifeguarding is a program offered multiple times in the spring and summer and is available for individuals 15 and over to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to be certified to work as a lifeguard. Must be able to swim 300 yards and retrieve a 10 lbs brick from the bottom of the pool and swim 20 yards to the wall to enter the program. Participants must be good swimmers to successfully learn lifeguard skills. Please note: this is not a swimming program. For more information, click on the tab under the Pool heading.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor is offered 2 times per year and is available for members and non-members 16 and over who want to become certified to teach American Red Cross swim lessons. Participants must be able to swim one (1) length of the pool using freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, side stroke and breaststroke in good form to qualify to enter the course. Please note: This is not a "learn to swim" program.
Boy Scout Merit Badges courses are offered at the North Kansas City Community Center, where Boy Scouts can work on their rank advancements, Swimming Merit Badge, and Lifesaving Merit Badge. During the class, instructors will work with students on their requirements; afterwards, a Merit Badge Counselor will sign-off what skills were completed. Check back this Spring for upcoming classes.
Indoor Triathlon Competition - The NKC Community Center hosted its first annual indoor triathlon on Sunday, May 2nd. It consisted of a 15 minute swim, a 20 minute stationary bike ride, and a 20 minute treadmill run. Total distance traveled for each portion of the competition was compiled. Next tentative date will be Sunday, February 20, 2011.
